THIS BOOK WILL MAKE YOU AN ARTIST starts with a clear introduction that invites the curious and imaginative to get ideas through art history. The pictures are relatable to children like when they define what a studio is but also illustrate children in their bedroom surrounded by common materials. This forthright manner introduces the major concepts of art while also making it accessible in terms children can understand and imagine themselves doing.
The history of famous artists paired with easy instructions and common materials to explore the art style was incredibly compelling. I felt inspired to try to create with these styles even though I do not rate my artistic aptitude very high. I loved that it started from the most ancient forms of artwork and then went in roughly chronological order of each type of art movement. I also like that art from many cultures was featured for a comprehensive look.
I can see this book being a great companion to homeschool or Montessori curriculums as well as to art enthusiasts in general. Overall, it felt effortless to learn about art history, and inspiring to the creative mind in us all. I can see this becoming a beloved reference for children especially those in third – fifth grade. I loved that it went beyond stating interesting facts and gave readers the tools and knowledge to engage in the content. It truly is a phenomenal resource.
