“Come on, be serious!”
Something that I have always loved in children’s books is when illustrators use colorful images with a mainly white background. It really allows the characters and the words jump off the pages.
The book was packed with all types of animals and personalities. From zebras to snakes to donkeys, and all of them doing ridiculously funny things. From riding on unicycles to pretending they were in libraries, all the animals brought so much life and fun to the book.
It started off with the narrator trying to assure the reader and animals in the book that this is a serious book. However, as you go further into the story you see that the narrator has no control over the outrageous personalities of the animals and their antics!
Each page focused on something the narrator would say a serious book would never have, and each page the animals would be seen doing exactly those things. All the words on each page were in italics, large, or small, which gave the reader a perfect chance to really make the experience of reading this more enjoyable for the little ones!
Final thoughts?
A lovely, beautiful book that is not only fun to read, but also fun for kids to have read to them! Despite the title (which is obviously not meant to be taken serious), this book is the opposite of serious- it is playful and colorful!
“This book is a… NOT SO serious book!”
Good Points
the most lovely illustrations!
