Witnesses to a mystery on the battlefield, a British medic and an American Navy SEAL confront Afghanistan's fog of war.

In war-torn Afghanistan, a girl walks right into a hail of bullets: Elinor watches it with her own eyes. The young British army medic risks the line of fire to rescue her, only to realize the girl is gone.

To find the missing, mysterious child, Elinor enlists the help of an American Navy SEAL. But in all the confusion, with coalition troops fighting every day to maintain a fragile peace, does Ben have something to hide?

Elinor came to Afghanistan with the hope of changing hearts and minds: What she's about to discover will make her question everything she ever believed about love and war.

A war thriller. A cross-cultural love story with an undercurrent of magic realism. A powerful debut set in modern-day, battle-scarred Afghanistan. This is TORN.

This book went far and beyond my expectations. David Massey does an absolutely wonderful job. Torn is crafted in such a way that it is simple and straightforward, yet incredibly powerful and moving.

Ellie, a young British Medic, finds herself on the front lines in Afghanistan. Here she faces unimaginable terror and does everything in her power to survive. She must learn how to work as a part of a new team while navigating her way around the customs and culture of Afghanistan. On top of everything, a mysterious girl keeps appearing during any intense fighting. When everything settles, the young girl is cannot be found. Some say she is an omen, some say it is just her imagination, others still say she is real. Who is that little girl?

It is frank and to the point when depicting what soldiers face on the front line. The reader grabs ahold of the human element through Elie's voice, which is strong in the face of adversity yet delicate enough to add depth.

Torn captures the front line action while making the characters easy to relate to and believe. It blends realistic war action with a page turning mystery with a hint of mysticism.
It flawlessly blends the terror of war, mystery, and humanity. David Massey uses effective and descriptive words to describe a beautiful and foreign land.

Torn is a must read for all ages. This has become one of my favorites of 2013.
