An adorable children's story about an important subject.
The story:
Max and Lila are celebrating Chanukah with their family at Chanu-con. They watch skits, play games, make crafts, and eat food all while learning--or rather teaching the reader-- more about Chanukah.
What I loved:
The story is written in a lyrical way that makes it truly a pleasure to speak aloud when reading to a kid. So few kid's books rhyme anymore and I loved the poetry of it. I'll be honest, I know next to nothing about Chanukah. I'm not Jewish and have known very few people who celebrate the holiday. So, even though I'm not a kid, I learned a lot of important things from this story too. It's important for us to know about traditions different from our own, so I believe this story is wonderful both for kids it relates to and to the ones it doesn't.
The artwork is completely adorable and engaging, keeping the kids enraptured until the very end. I also LOVED that there were crafts at the end.
