The creature with no words lives a life of experiences but no words to understand the things around him. Then one day he meets a creature with words who helps him put names to what he is feeling and doing. They experience time with words and the perfect experience of being without words and just enjoying the world. This was an unexpectedly deep and thought-provoking story. What a world it would be with no words to understand yourself or the things that happen. The illustration style was not my favorite with its unrefined swirls and undefined shapes but it also works well to deepen the feelings of frustration the creature has when he has no way to express himself. Young readers will enjoy the simplicity of events and more mature audiences will have room to reflect on the deeper message of the book, making it a versatile story for readers.
