Seventeen-year-old Sienna Jones gave up everything she loved about California, swimming, surfing, after the death of her mother. When her father suggests she go on a humanitarian mission to a village in Indonesia to help survivors with PTSD, she's hesitant at first. Just the thought of flying makes her beyond anxious. But she then decides to go. Once there she encounters Deni who makes her feel alive. Then his past catches up with him. Will Sienna be able to handle losing yet another person she cares about?

What worked: There's intense chemistry between Sienna and Deni right at the start. Loved this. Kling is able to give us two characters we care about. The romance isn't over the top, but very believable.

The Indonesian backdrop is shown in vivid detail. The horrors of a natural disaster are woven throughout the story. Readers see the pain, loss, and tragedy of those who are left behind. A huge plus of this novel has to be the underlining message of hope that both Sienna and Deni have.

Sienna is passionate and caring. The way she's able to connect with the youngest survivors of the tsunami is shown right when she gets to the orphanage. The children help her with her own pain and loss of her mother.
