Hilarious and Heartwarming- a fun read from beginning to the end! Maz Evans is reminiscent of Roald Dahl in her vivid character descriptions and wacky plot twists. Who Let the Gods Out takes you on a fantastic adventure ride filled with wacky versions of all our favorite Greek Gods- I mean they are retired now so they should be able to kick back and relax. The Zodiacs have been left to keep eye on things and that means something is bound to go wrong. It is now up to Virgo to pair up with Elliot to not only save his mom from the evil neighbor but to also try and save the word from an escaped evil daemon. Up till now, the most difficult thing Elliot had to face was school and helping take care of his mom.

What I love best: The humor. In the mean descriptions I was instantly reminded of Trunchbull from Matilda and the Mrs. Pratchett from Roald Dahl’s memoir Boy. On top of that the side jokes are wonderfully woven into the story as it blends humor with interesting tidbits on the gods and zodiacs. There are even some more “inside” jokes for young adults who have been life long fans of mythology. I also love the way Elliot’s and Virgo’s friendship grows throughout the course of the story. There are a lot of meaningful moments of friendship. There are enough twists and turns to keep the reader fully engrossed in the story, touching heartfelt moments, and laugh out loud scenes- it has everything you need all in one book.

Fans of the Percy Jackson series, Roald Dahl, mythology, and fun reads will absolutely give a big book hug to Who Let the Gods Out. Great for tweens, teens, or a family read. It is definitely one of those books that will even grab the most reluctant reader. Check this one out as soon as you can.
