My family were already fans of Alexandra Milton's previous books, “Who is in the Egg?” and “Whose Tracks in the Snow?” So I was understandably excited for the new addition, "Who Lives Here?" This book has quickly become one of our family's favorite nature exploration books. Through stunning paper collage illustrations that look almost three-dimensional, Milton takes young readers on a journey through different animal habitats. Each page turn feels like discovering a secret hideaway, complete with the creatures who call it home.
What makes this book truly special is its layered approach to learning. The main story flows with gentle questions that draw children into discovering where each animal lives, while additional fact sections satisfy those "but why?" moments that curious minds always have. My little ones are particularly fascinated by the textured collage illustrations - they make each animal feel so real!
The book strikes that perfect balance between entertainment and education. Whether you're reading about a cozy mole tunnel or a wise owl's tree hollow, each habitat reveals something new about how animals make their homes in nature. To help enhance our homeschool science class, we've started playing our own version of "Who Lives Here?" during neighborhood walks, guessing what creatures might live in the spaces we discover (always followed up with a fact-finding mission when we get back home).
The blend of artistic beauty and natural science makes this book a true treasure. It's perfect for nurturing that innate curiosity about the natural world that all children seem to possess. Whether you're exploring it together at bedtime or using it to spark outdoor adventures, "Who Lives Here?" opens up endless possibilities for discovery and wonder.
