Fans of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Peter Lerangis’s Seven Wonders series will embrace this epic adventure in a rollicking new series by a New York Times bestselling author.

Will Wilder didn’t mean to unlock his otherworldly gift. But that is exactly what happens when Will “borrows” a sacred relic believed to protect the town of Perilous Falls for nearly a century. Even though his intentions are good, the impulsive twelve-year-old unwittingly awakens an ancient evil endangering all of Perilous Falls.

As boats sink and hideous creatures crawl from the rising waters, it is up to Will to confront a hellish enemy and set things right before it is too late. Along with his sweet—if lethal—great-aunt Lucille, the curator of a museum of supernatural artifacts, Will proves that the actions of one twelve-year-old boy can change the world.

A hilarious and sometimes terrifyingly suspenseful adventure young teens and tweens are sure to devour.

The story begins with an unexpected prologue set in Nazi Germany to establish the tone and show the reader this is no ordinary kid’s tale. And just as quickly, we’re transported to a child’s birthday party where we meet our mischievous hero, Will. His good humor and quick wit are immediately apparent, but he quite possibly is also in need of a long stint in time out.
Action and adventure ensues as the secrets of Perilous Falls unfold and Will learns from his fabulous Aunt Lucille, that everything is not what it seems.
The underlying theme of the novel is the battle between good and evil—right and wrong. Young fans of Percy Jackson will love this story, while parents might not find is as appealing as the intended audience will. The plot moves forward at a steady pace after a bit of a slow start and Will’s adventures surround him with interesting and well developed characters, terrifying monsters and demons. The dialogue is humorous and age appropriate, making this first installment rife with potential.

Will Wilder is perfect for the intended audience of 8-12. This first book has set the stage for a compelling series that children can grow up with as the adventure continues.
