The first book in this new series adapted by Elizabeth Lenhard (it's a Disney owned and developed property) kicks off in high gear. Five girls -- Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin -- discover that they (and only they) have the power to triumph over evil and save their world (and other worlds) from the encroaching darkness.

The book begins and ends with a comic book style introduction and each chapter also has at least one illustration. All are done in an Anime/Manga look & feel, making this a good crossover book for Anime lovers.

Each book also comes with a trading card featuring a different girl, encouraging readers (if they weren't already excited enough about the snappy storyline) to collect each book.

The girls are plucky and resourceful, and each has their own quirky habits. True to form, they do somewhat follow stereotypes/archetypes (the artsy one, the popular one, etc.), but this is handled in a nice way and each girl does have a distinct personality.

The story itself makes for a quick read and is sure to be devoured by girls between the ages of 6-12.
