Skateboard Blues
User reviews
"Skateboard Blues" by Sydell Voeller (http://www.hardshill.com) is a really good book. Kids will really relate to this one.
Jessica is enthralled when new neighbors move in across the street, especially when she sees their son Cama boy just her age! Spying on the newcomers, she sees him dash down the driveway on a skateboard, soon joined by other skateboarders. Oh, oh. Not a good sign in their small Oregon town. People frown on skateboarding here.
While Jessica and her sister pass out campaign flyers for their dad, who is running for mayor, she meets Cam and her heart nearly stops. He is so cute! Unbelievably, he is attracted to her, too.
Caught in a bind with her father running for public office and her new friendship with the skateboarders, Jessica fears her parents won't approve. Not only that, the skateboarders are blamed for vandalism which has the town in an uproar.
Trying to prove themselves worthy of trust, the skateboarders launch into a plan to build a skateboard park and Jessica finds herself happily in the middle of the activity.
"Skateboard Blues" shows how kids can overcome adult biases. The romantic relationship between Jessica and Cam gets a little shaky at times, due to a misunderstanding, which adds suspense and realism to the book.
"Skateboard Blues" is an e-published book, which means you can download it and read it on your computer or on a hand-held reading device, like the Rocket eBook. Or, you can get it on a disk.
