A blood-curdlingly spooky and darkly funny romance about how falling in love is scary AF, perfect for fans of Wednesday and Heartstopper.

When Gray gets a text from a wrong number, he’s pretty sure it’s a serial killer—or worse, his ex—on the other end of the line. But, the anonymous texter shares his same taste in music and movies, and Gray’s bored while stuck at home all summer, so why not respond? Being anonymous actually helps them open up to each other, and Gray finds himself hopeful that this could be his dream goth crush. All they have to do is meet—on Halloween, the night of Sleepy Hollow’s big house-decorating contest, and the perfect opportunity for Gray to show his mystery texter his true feelings.

But between Gray’s closeted ex coming back into the picture, a cute but obnoxious new goth kid vying to win the contest, and a maybe serial killer lurking around and killing local gay teens, Gray’s prospects are looking grim. Come Halloween, he’ll either get his dream guy or die trying…

You’ve Goth My Heart is the romantic and hilarious accidental-connection romance you don’t want to miss!

Gray gets a text from a wrong number, and he is sure that it must be his ex or a serial killer. But he figures, why not respond since he’s stuck at home for the summer, and he finds that they have the same taste in music and movies. Gray and the anonymous texter set up a date to meet on Halloween, which is the night of Sleepy Hollow’s house-decorating contest. But suddenly, Gray’s closeted ex is trying to come into the picture, a new snobbish goth kid has moved into town and is trying to win the contest, and there seems to be a potential serial killer on the loose, and gay teens are disappearing.

What I Liked: This book packs so much into it, yet manages to not lose the reader in the nuances of the story. Each of the characters is well developed, and it was exciting to get to know Gray, his two best friends, Malcolm, and Gray’s moms. It was great to see the support system that Gray has, especially as he goes to his mom for assistance when things go south with his closeted ex.

It was fascinating to try to figure out what was going on with the missing teenagers alongside the mystery of the person texting. While the mystery of the anonymous texter was easy to solve early on, this book is intriguing because of the other mysteries that are included. You want to continue reading to know if Gray will figure out the identity of the mysterious texter, who will win the house decorating contest, and what is really happening to the gay boys in Sleepy Hollow.

The conversations that this book brings up regarding online strangers are important for teenagers to be exposed to. The book served as an important reminder to be wary of the people that you meet on the internet and how you handle meeting them in person. While Gray kind of ignores the danger, his friends are constantly reminding him and ensuring his safety.

Final Verdict: You’ve Goth My Heart is a sweet romantic story that has a fantastic balance of humor and romance that will have you quickly reading through to see what the future awaits for Gray. This book is perfect for young adults ages 14 and up who enjoy goth romance, mysteries, and Halloween. This book will have you hooked from the start, and the inclusion of text messages makes the pacing change constantly throughout the book.
