Floe Ryan contracted a deadly disease when she was sixteen and died&but that isnt the end of her story. Its the beginning. Floe, you see, was vitrified (i.e. cryogenically frozen) at death and then thawed ten years later after a cure is found. In that ten years, she hasnt aged a bit, but the world around her definitely has.
For one thing, her parents were also vitrified (and are still frozen; Floe is the first to be thawed out) and her formerly younger sister Sunny is now her older sister (though she still clearly remembers every mean thing her then-older sister did to her). And the world? Its changed too; theres new technology and definitely new fashion trends.
Can I just say that I really, really hope Bev Katz Rosenbaum is wrong about the whole skintight unitard thing? Because I am soooo not wearing one of those.
If trying to fit in with the next generation of yuppie kids wasnt bad enough (Floe, after all, used to be a Venice Beach kind of gal), she finds out that the Cryogenics Center is under legal attack and may be shut down. If it is, that would mean her parents will never be thawed and cured. As bad as that would be by itself, it also means that shed be stuck with just Sunny.
Who still seems to be mad about the whole shaving-the-hair-off-her-dolls thing.
Then theres Taz, the only other un-frozen popsicle kid in existence. The same Taz that Floe used to have a crush on and who seems to be adjusting to this whole Brave New World better than Floe (especially the opposite sex).
Can Floe save the Center and her parents? Does Taz truly dig her or not? Will she ever fit in with these new kids? And can this former rollerblading queen ever figure out how to use these newfangled hoverskates?
Told in Floes slightly sarcastic voice, this is a super fun book with just the right amount of edge to it. Highly recommended for readers aged 12 and up, especially those of you who know what its like to not fit in (and hey, havent we all been there?).

This book was soooooo good. I didn't understand the title at first, but then I got it once I read the book. This book has a little science in it, but it is amazing. She was frozen so she didn't die and now she is alive again. The mean girl ends up becoming just like her in the end. The place that froze her, also froze her parents but she was thawed before them. How much do you think can change in a year? She finds out soon. She learns to hoverblade and ends up making friends of the future. This book was sooooo good!!!

I don't know what went wrong! It had a great premise and some great characters but it did not fit together as i hoped it would. There was some fun moments and some of the future moments were cool but it was not a great book like i hoped it would be. This book is a good book to read during a vacation or when you have nothing better to do.

I WAS A TEENAGE POPSICLE is a fun page-turner with a great sci-fi twist! Floe Ryan died of an incurable disease when she was sixteen, and her parents make, ah, interesting arrangements for her: she is frozen. Or, more accurately, vitrified. Whatever you call it, when Floe wakes up ten years later when a cure for her disease has been discovered, the world is more than a little confusing! While waiting for her parents to be thawed, she has to live with her younger sister, Sunny--who is now older than Floe, is married, and has a baby. Plus, Floe is way behind on new trends and technology. She's not entirely alone, though--she's got Taz, a hot skater from her old school who was vitrified around the same time as Floe, and thawed at the same time as well.
Some people with way too little faith in cryonics, though, mess things up way more than Floe thought was possible. They're trying to sue the Venice Beach Cryonics Center and force it to close--and Floe's parents haven't even been thawed yet! If she doesn't want to be stuck living with Sunny and without her parents forever, Floe and a few trusted friends have to come up with a way to save the Center, and fast.
I WAS A TEENAGE POPSICLE is an awesomely 'cool' futuristic and fun read that's full of lifelike, interesting characters about whom I can't wait to read more in the upcoming sequel, BEYOND COOL. Bev Katz Rosenbaum has an obvious talent for great ideas and a wonderful way with words! Floe Ryan is one of my favorite fictional characters in a long time, and I know I can't be the only one who feels that way. Her relationship with Taz, however, didn't always feel entirely real to me. Despite that, this book is a definite page-turner; I couldn't put it down!

Floe Ryan, a sixteen years old teenager, has been vitrified ten years ago, having a rare disease.
So have been her parents and her skaterboy friend, Taz.
Now a cure has been found, she has been thawed and even if ten years passed, she's still a
teenager (even if she must be twenty-six, well, it's complicated) but the world around her
changed a lot.
Now she'll have to deal with a whole new world and the fact that her younger sister Sunny is now older and will be her guardian.
And being a "frozen zombie" isn't really easy.
Especially that now they wsant to close the Venice Beach Cryonics Center - and Floe's parents are still frozen in!
Will she manage to save the center and her parents? To find a place in this brand-new world?
A funny and witty novel!
Bev Katz Rosenbaum brings us a really innovative idea and takes us for an exciting trip in the future!
Behind the fun of the story, you'll discover a criticism of your society, that changes too fast.
