This is baised on the true story of the lovesick maidens in China. Baised on the opera "The Peony Pavillion", that has been driving these women to suicide for centuries. Peony is a young girl in 19th century China who falls in love with a man who she is not arranged to marry. Inspired by the opera and all those women who have died before her inn similar situations, Peony starves herself to death. Her heartbreaking journey and realizations in the afterworld explore Chinease belifs of what happens after death and the one thing no chinease woman is ment to have...love.
