"The Secret Life of a Teenage Siren" was a good read. I didn't think it was going to be good at first but it showed me wrong.
A teenager is turned from a band geek with bad hair and skin to a complete beauty. (nice hair, face, and even boobs. hah the whole deal.) She could make any man do what she pleases buy just playing her flute. The only problem with being a Siren is that you can't break the two rules. Which are:

- 1.) You can't tell ANYONE that you're a Siren
- 2.) You can NOT fall in love.

Band geek Roxy has always been a plain-jane. With no outstanding features, thick glasses, and red frizzy hair, shes come to a realization, theres no way the cute guys are ever going to pay attention to her. Of course, that doesnt keep her from dreaming about them. What Roxy doesnt realize though is all that is about to change. On her sixteenth birthday, the genes she received from her grandma finally kick in, transforming her into a gorgeous, flawless, siren. Is there any more a girl could wish for? With the new found beauty, and mystical gift, Roxy no longer has any problems with the cute guys, but is getting the guy of your dreams really worth losing your best friend?
Wendy Toliver did such a great job with this one that it had me wishing I was a siren. As fictional as it is, the entire story felt pretty much real. When Roxy is given her powers, at first, shes skeptical, which is normal. I mean how else can you react when youve just been transformed into a mythical creature? Im surprised she didnt faint. Then when Roxy gets the gist of it all, accepts it and everything, of course, like any person would do, she totally abuses her powers. She uses them to get what she wants when she wants. She even used them on her dad and little brother, which was kinda creepy, but I guess a girls got to do what a girls got to do.
The friendships in this book were also interesting and totally relatable. Roxy and Zach were so wrong for each other, if only shes known from the beginning. She and Alex were really cute together. And the fact that they both cared for each other made them a much better couple than her and Zach. Natalie was a good friend, and also as stubborn as Roxy. And Roxy her self really grew a lot from the begging to the end of the book. She can definitely be the spokes person for the looks can be deceiving phrase. Although she looks superficial on the outside, on the inside, shes become much deeper than that.
I really enjoyed this book. It was definitely a page turner. I am a sucker for RoComs! I'm looking forward to Miss Match, also by Wendy Toliver.

Roxy has been crushing on the popular Zach for years. But there is one problem- Roxy is a Bee-Gee, a Band Geek, and there's no way Zach would even look twice at her. But all of that changes when on Roxy's 16th birthday she is transformed into a beauty queen in 60 seconds flat. Apparently she is a Siren, and there are some rules to be followed. With this transformation comes everything she's ever wanted. But Roxy's soon to finding out that everything she's ever wanted isn't worth the sacrafices she has to make to have it.
I really enjoyed reading The Secret Life of a Teenage Siren. The story is cute and original, the emotions and the characters are real. Roxy acted as most girls would when presented with their dream, even if the actions weren't so desirable. You want to hate her in the beginning for the things she does but as the story goes on you realize that's not her at all. In the end she realizes the meaning of true friendship and the importance of not judging people. The book was entertaining, funny, and a quick read. Fans of the other Simon Pulse Romantic Comedies will find this to be enjoyable. Great job Wendy!

si"ren sī'rən n 1 : any of a group of female and partly human creatures in Greek mythology that lured mariners to destruction by their enchanting music 2 : a woman who makes bewitchingly beautiful music 3 : a temptingly beautiful woman
On Roxys sixteenth birthday, she is somehow miraculously transformed from band geek to gorgeous seductress. Roxys grandmother explains that this is because Roxy is a Siren, the definition of which is above. At first, Roxy is skeptical, but then she starts to get used to charming boys to get what she wants. With the aid of her flute, Roxy snags her hot crush, passes her driving test, and becomes a model, among other things. But there are two rules; Roxy cant tell anyone shes a Siren, and she cant fall in love either. If she breaks these rules, she loses her powers and the person she loves will die. Everything seems so simple at first until Roxy starts falling in love.
The Secret Life of a Teenage Siren was a very fun and satisfying read. I really enjoyed how Wendy Toliver incorporated mythology into a funny modern story. The story was sweet yet predictable, but that didnt make me like it any less. Anyone who loves the other Simon Pulse Romantic Comedies will also love this enjoyable novel.
