Zachariah Thomson has spent the past year getting used to the idea that his best friend, Charlie, and the lovely Luna are now vampires, like him. As they learn to cope with the changes this brings, a mysterious creature appears. Likened to the Beast of the Apocalypse, it begins to dismantle the network of support around Zack, who discovers he is more than just an orphaned vampire – he is the subject of an ancient prophecy that relates to the End of Days. As friends and enemies, old and new, throw his world into chaos, he is forced to re-examine what it means to be good at a time when it seems that only the strong and ruthless can survive.

Zack Thomson is a vampire. So are his friends Charlie and Luna. While Charlie struggles with his new vampirism, he, Zack, and their friends are pulled into a conflict with the mysterious Mr. Hyde, a creature who hunts vampires. As the story unfolds, and the ties between Zack and his girlfriend Luna intensify, the network of support around them collapses, forcing them to redefine their notions of good and evil and find a way home.

I really enjoyed this book! I have not read the first book (but you can believe I'm going to get it now and read it!), so the beginning was a bit slow for me. However, I was able to pick right up and follow this sequel really easily without reading the first book. It's not your typical vampire love story at all. Zack is an all-around great guy. He is genuine, kind, moral, brave, sweet...I could go on and on. I adored this main character. Seriously, he's the type of boy you WANT to take home to your parents. And the vampires in this book were very human. Sure, they're strong and suck blood, but they didn't go around killing people. They have to stay out of the sunlight (they don't sparkle!), and they get tired. I just loved the human aspect to them. It made it more 'real' to me. I really enjoyed the change of pace, and this book kept me on the edge of my seat. Mr. Hyde was positively frightening. Seriously, I had nightmares about him!

If you have read Night Runner, then hurry and get this book today! If you haven't, then go get this book anyway! I highly recommend it!
