Zoe is free. She has escaped the enslavement of the Community, disconnected from the hardware that had controlled her every thought and emotion, and evaded capture by the Chancellor intent on killing her. She is finally free, but she is far from safe. Zoe and Adrien hide themselves from detection at the Foundation, an academy that trains teen glitchers to fight in the Resistance movement. Together, Zoe and her new team of superhuman fighters must risk their lives to rescue other glitchers and humans from the Chancellor's control. Challenges abound at every turn, and Adrien, who has become silent, distant, and tormented by his visions of the future, only adds to the growing certainty of defeat. But worst of all, as Zoe's team fights against impossible odds, distrust and betrayal leads to the terrible discovery that their greatest threat could already be lurking behind the safe walls of the Foundation. Full of high-adrenaline action and shocking twists, Heather Anastasiu's Override is an exciting continuation of this popular young adult trilogy.

What I liked: I really enjoy the way Heather Anastasiu writes, even if the world she's crafted is a little more complex and Sci-Fi than my brain can handle. (Code for: This book may be smarter than me and I am totally okay with that.) Override's fast paced, non-stop action keeps the story from falling into the "sophomore slump" and the budding romance will leave you a little breathless. This sequel is not without it's the twists and they are equal parts, "I did NOT see that coming!" and "Thanks so much for ripping my heart out!" *whimpers*

What left me wanting: There were times when Zoe's flip-flopping between being angry with Adrien one minute and feeling guilty/sorry for him the next drove me crazy. I have mixed feelings about the ending as well - part of me understands it was completely necessary to the storyline as a whole but the other part of me (aka my heart)? Not so much.

Final verdict: Thrilling sequel.

I’m always a little disappointed when a book has an awesome setting, and then in the next book the characters are out of that setting. This is the case in Override. Yes, the Community is a corrupt place, but I loved the creepy, monotonous feel to it. Now Zoe is above ground at the Foundation as part of the Resistance. She’s training, along with other escaped glitchers, to fight against the Chancellor and the rest of those in charge at the Community.

The plot is quite fast paced in Override. Before I knew it, I was at the end! Zoe and the other glitchers just keep running into dangerous situation after dangerous situation. Their powers are certainly be tested to the max. I loved seeing the Gifts of other glitchers in action, and there’s also some scientific explanations behind these Gifts which I enjoyed reading, too.

I’m still not convinced on this romance between Zoe and Adrien. There’s a few moments of “Oh, I love you so much” and some kissing, and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. If you don’t remember, those two fell in love the same day they met. Yeah, lame. Luckily, there’s not much romance happening in Override since the focus is on the action. They also spend some time avoiding each other which took away more romance time. But then there’s a twist! I was like OMG no way! It’s serious and slightly creepy, but it was awesome.

That ending was intense. I didn’t see that coming at all. Even though I never liked Adrien that much, I feel so bad for him! I have hope that things will work out in the last book though. The Resistance has their work cut out for them if they want to free all of the citizens at Community. Without a doubt, Override is better than the first book. Sure I missed some things from the previous book, but I liked the action and the science that one gives us.
