Staci Glass feels cursed—whenever there's a crisis, she's stuck in the middle. Now her best friend, Faith, has a new hobby, and against her better judgment, Staci conjures up the courage to go along. They join a trio of wannabe witches for a magical ceremony in an Incan history exhibit. Their chanting is loud enough to raise the dead, it seems. Why else would a shriveled-up mummy go missing—and a mysterious Incan prince suddenly appear? Prince Pachacutec—or "Chuck"—is a man with a past. He died tragically five hundred years ago, but that's all ancient history as far as Staci is concerned. He is everything she could want—kind, charming, and drop-dead gorgeous. But the witches aren't willing to live and let live. Will Staci fight for Chuck? Or do the witches have a point when they say reanimated corpses make bad boyfriends?

I'm a huge fan of graphic novels especially ones with a paranormal flare. In MY BOYFRIEND IS A MONSTER, there's a fun twist on the whole boyfriend idea. In book 6 we meet Staci Glass who's used to being stuck in the middle of her friend's conflicts. This usually gets her in big trouble. Her best friend Faith develops a new hobby that just happens to involve hanging with some wannabe witches who try to summon the dead. In this case it goes haywire and awakens Prince Pachacutec-or 'Chuck'- a 500 year old Incan mummy. Staci finds herself attracted to him, even if he just happens to be way older than her. Then the witches want more, including the power that brought Chuck to life.

What worked: This is a fun paranormal twist on boyfriends. Each book has a different paranormal being. In this one it happens to be a mummy. Each story is lighter and has romantic elements that add a certain charm. Totally for those who like books with a lighter element. The romantic angle is an added plus. Not too serious or dark which makes this perfect for tween readers too.

I did think that Staci fell too fast for Chuck. I'd think she'd be a little on guard at first. But on the other hand her past history of ending up pushing people away might make it easier for her to fall for the reanimated prince. Especially a gorgeous one who gives her lots of attention. Something Staci craves.

Fun paranormal graphic novel that brings a whole new meaning to an out of this world boyfriend. A total recommend for fans of lighter, paranormal tales with a hint of romance.
