Sometimes, blackmail is the only weapon a girl has… Haley Patterson has had a crush on golden boy Bryce Colton for ages. But when she hears a rumor that he hooked up with her she gives him a choice: be her boyfriend for a month to show other guys that she’s dateable—despite her overprotective and very intimidating brothers—or deal with the angry, cage-fighting boyfriend of the girl he actually did hook up with. Bryce didn’t know the other Haley even had a boyfriend. He was just trying to get his ex off his back. And now, not only is he being blackmailed, he's being blackmailed by an honor student. His new “girlfriend” has two three-legged dogs, her father mows grass at the country club, and she's…well, difficult. And different. Can something so fake turn into something real?

BLACKMAIL BOYFRIEND is an adorable piece of work. Two characters from different economical backgrounds unexpectedly meet because of sheer dumb luck (and the plot). Haley Patterson is the daughter of a local and small business owner who does landscaping (gardening). Bryce Colton comes from a rich family with heaps of zeroes. He most likely has a trust fund (and hails from the one percent bracket).

In different classes and different sections of their high school's popularity ladder, the two at first take a(n) (immense) dislike towards one another. But quickly, they come together and find a stable relationship. They become friends (hip, hip, hooray!). Then there is something more. Something... quite striking, and I especially love how Bryce and Haley's relationship slowly and delightfully progress. Ahhh... the lines blur.

Haley is an honor student. Hunting for a boyfriend, Haley is constantly annoyed by how her two brothers protect her. Being bold, she takes advantage of a rumor to stop her peers from harassing her and her reputation. Haley is a sweet character with a love for strays animals, and I find her to be a refreshing girl. She is strong enough to stand without needing any backup. Amazingly, she is able to call out the douche-y actions of Bryce.

Bryce is most definitely the character who has the most development. In a rather sheltered and ignorant life, he never tried getting down to the mere mortal's world. But once he meets Haley, everything changes. Suddenly, he is different and a little more open-minded. He tries new things, and he becomes a new person. Someone better.

The ending is good, and it absolutely gives a gorgeous ending to the tale. Though I honestly won't mind a sequel, Blackmail Boyfriend is obviously a standalone. (I'll throw myself a pity party. Thankfully, this book ends in a HEA.)

In conclusion, BLACKMAIL BOYFRIEND is a light, fun, and amazing read with a little touch of Romeo and Juliet. I laugh at the characters, with the characters, and enjoy spending time in this mostly joyful and shippy world. (Yes, "shippy" because Haley and Bryce are just begging to be shipped together.) The main focus is the romance.
