A dying friend, a terrible bargain, an underwater quest, and dangerous magic . . . the adventure continues in this sequel to CHILDREN OF THE FOX. Fans of twisty, clever stories like The False Prince and Ocean's Eleven will love this newest series from Kevin Sands, author of the bestselling Blackthorn Key.

Rule number one: Never mess with magic. Even so, a life-or-death situation calls for Callan and his criminal friends to make a deal with the Eye—the sinister, sentient artifact they stole from a sorcerer. It's Lachlan's life in exchange for a future task, and the gang has no choice but to agree.

But even as Lachlan is resurrected, it's not without cost. Through the Eye, Callan can see a tiny purple stain inside Lachlan's soul, which will eventually consume him. The cure—and their part of the deal—lies with the Dragon's Teeth, a pair of swords with extraordinary powers, and the search for them leads the thieves on a quest that will unravel the mystery of the Eye. Old friends, new betrayals, and an even more daring break-in than the last culminate in a confrontation that will take all the gang's skill and power to resist—or they'll die trying.

What I Liked: The first book, Children of the Fox, left on an exciting cliffhanger making this book a much-anticipated release. In the last book Callan and an eclectic group of talented misfits team up for a heist that changes them and the world in unexpected ways. This sequel was good in the fact that it took time to develop the character’s relationships with each other. The aspect I really enjoyed in the first book was the Ocean’s Eleven style heist with neat change-offs to accomplish their goals. This book eventually had that but it was closer to the end of the book making it a bit of a slower read to me. The world-building and history were better explored as well as the great animal spirits and their differing personalities. I liked that we learn a bit more about why Foxtail may have a mysterious plate over her face but not how or who did it to her. It leads up to being a major focus for the next book I think, but as someone who wants answers, I was left a bit frustrated that not enough secrets were revealed about her to satiate my curiosity. We have hints about a mysterious past that Meriel is possibly hiding from the group that I hope is explored further in the next book as well.
Final Verdict: This was a solid addition to the series and when they get to the heist and quick-thinking cons that Callan is best at, I am all in and could not put the book down. The world-building is solid and continues to be explored in greater depths making for a fascinating world ruled by great animal spirits and magical powers. I hope the sequel comes soon!

In "The Seekers of the Fox," Kevin Sands delivers the second installment in his thrilling series with another gripping adventure. Determined to save Lachlan, Callan and his companions embark on a perilous journey, risking everything once again. This book features another exhilarating heist, but with trust misplaced, the outcome seems doomed from the start. Only through Callan's astute understanding of people's mindsets and motivations are they able to navigate and overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

One of the standout features of this book is the electrifying heist. Sands masterfully crafts a suspenseful and engaging plot that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. Callan's breakthrough is brilliantly executed, showcasing his exceptional skills and quick thinking. However, this focus on Callan's achievements comes at a cost.

While "The Seekers of the Fox" excels in delivering a thrilling narrative, it falls short in character development compared to the first book. In the initial installment, the diverse cast of characters and their evolving dynamics were a highlight. Unfortunately, in this sequel, the emphasis shifts predominantly to Callan, sometimes relegating other characters to the background. This shift detracts from the rich ensemble dynamic that was so appealing in the first book. Characters like Foxtail, Lachlan, Meriel, and Gareth, who played crucial and inclusive roles in the initial heist, are less prominent and their contributions feel somewhat sidelined.

Despite this, the story's momentum is strong, and the ending, with its tantalizing cliffhanger, compels readers to immediately reach for the next book. Sands' ability to weave a compelling narrative that leaves readers wanting more is undeniable.

Overall, "The Seekers of the Fox" is a fast-paced and exciting continuation of the series. While it may not delve as deeply into character development as the first book, it still offers a thrilling adventure that fans will eagerly devour. The promise of the final installment holds great anticipation, as readers look forward to the resolution of this captivating story.
