Positive and Inclusive

Body Beautiful is a loving, positive look at all the ways our bodies are unique and beautiful. Having grown up in a time when the media was much harsher about what bodies are beautiful and magazines pushing for the “ideal” and right body, it is hard to accept the positive affirmations this book has to offer at times. Hopefully, with books like this, the upcoming generation can believe the message on an intrinsic level, as the message is repeated often.
The illustrations are bright and boisterous with so many skin, hair, and adaptive devices present to make children feel seen and included. The language is overwhelmingly positive, with many vocabulary words to be gained for how to describe your body. The only thing that detracted from the story was one page that lists so many words that it ran the risk of becoming word salad, and the child I was reading with started to wander off.
Overall, I applaud the positivity and the healthier messaging on our miraculous bodies and hope the next generation uses books like this to love their body.
