"All Creatures Great and Small" begins a series of books by Jim Herriot about his adventures and misadventures as a young vet in the English countryside during the 1930's. His story begins when he is hired by the eccentric Sigfried Farnon, and learns what it's like to handle the sometimes laconic, demanding, and/ or backwards farmers in the area. The stories are mostly humorous, as are Jim's attempts to woo a local girl named Helen.
These are great books for any animal lover, or anyone just looking for a nice read. The four books that follow cover Jim's service during WWII and his marriage, but the main focus is always the animals.
