A sexy, dark romantic thriller—with a shocking twist—by the author of Everything We Never Said.

Perfect for fans of Binding 13!

When eighteen-year-old River Santos’s house burned down, she lost everything. Her clothes. Her guitar. Her songbook.

Most importantly, she lost her father.

But when someone anonymously donates two million dollars to her GoFundMe, it’s like she’s won the worst sort of lottery. She’s a millionaire, but at what cost?

With every person who comes into the diner where she works, she wonders, "Was it you?" The only person she’s sure didn’t donate the money is her extremely hot—and extremely standoffish—coworker, Logan Evans. Ever since he started at the diner, he’s acted like he hates her. Which is why she’s shocked when he helps her save face in front of her ex…

Their attraction can’t be denied, but when River discovers a long-hidden family secret, she suddenly finds herself questioning everyone in her life. Her dad, who wasn’t as perfect as he seemed. Her chaotic mother, who left without so much as a goodbye at the beginning of her senior year. The anonymous donor, whose intentions may not have been altruistic after all. And most especially Logan, who has dark secrets of his own.

After the fire, River thought she had hit rock bottom. But as it turns out, there’s always more to lose…

All We Lost Was Everything lives up to the dark and twisty title and cover. River Santos is now living with her Tita Anna after a fire killed her father, from which she barely escaped. Her mother struggled with mental health issues and would go hiking for days at a time, but it has now been nearly 9 months, and no one has heard from her. River is thankful for Tita Ana and her best friend, Tawny, for helping her through all the grief and emotional rollercoasters she’s been facing. A GoFundMe page has given her untold opportunities, but a mysterious donation of $2 million has her scared to spend the money without knowing who sent it and why.
Dark and mysterious Logan is just the person to put a smile back on River’s face. There are just a few chapters from his POV. The author lets us know there are secrets he is keeping, so his interactions with River are exciting. Their love scenes get steamy, and the reader is with River for every part of it, so this book is best for upper YA+ audiences.
Her parents had secrets, and River is determined to uncover them. There are so many twists and turns about who was murdered and who is responsible. The truth brings pain, danger, and closure once she finds out, making for a compelling read to the finish.
Part of this story was read with an audiobook. The female narrator does a nice job on River’s parts and a passable job on the male voices. I am glad the few chapters with Logan do have a male narrator. I do wish the story had a bit more from his perspective, although most of the book is about uncovering the truth instead of the romance.
Overall, this was a suspenseful read that grabs your attention and holds on till the end. It is a standalone. The Print or audio version is a great way to consume this story. Fans of Ginny Myers Sain should add this to their TBR.

This book was amazing. It’s definitely not a romance, though it has romantic elements. I loved the mystery elements and the characters and plot were great. The whole thing was so good.
