FEEDBACK
It’s hard to say if I liked this book more than the first one. While it still follows Kyoshi, it’s definitely different. The first book was more of a self discovery. This book was more Avatar. One of the best aspects about this books is it really shows more of the Avatar role. The Fire Nation is not doing good so Emperor Zuryu calls upon the Avatar – which is perfect since Rangi and Hei-Ran are there. Kyoshi really has to explore not only the spiritual duties of the Avatar but the political one. This is why I felt like this book was a little superior. Kyoshi had many challenges to face and she did it in her way. She become one of the most feared but admired Avatar and this book starts to show why. I liked how it took place in the Fire Nation so we were able to see what it was like before Avatar Aang’s era. This world has been so much fun to explore and Yee has done nothing but a fantastic job bringing it to life.

Kyoshi still remains amazing. I love her even more than before. While she puts on a tough exterior, one kiss from Rangi completely melts her. Facing off against Yun, her first best friend, makes her hesitate. These are all details that make Kyoshi so relatable. Everything she does I can see myself making those same reactions. Jinpa was an excellent addition to Kyoshi’s companions. I really enjoyed the scenes with him, especially his and Rangi’s first meeting. I’m glad we got a little more if Hei-Ran and her redemption. It was so humble, but of course dramatic. Again, I enjoyed all of these characters so much and they way they fit into Kyoshi’s life.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Overall, Shadow of Kyoshi by FC Yee was a fantastic addition. The story more focused on what the Avatar responsibilities are and I really liked this angle. It showed Kyoshi in a different setting but still being true to herself. I loved reading how she dealt with each situation and how it really affected her. Yee did it again by bringing this amazing story to life and I really hope we get more. I highly recommend this series to anyone who is an Avatar fan, or just loves books like these in general
