The author’s love of the time she spent with her grandparents is evident on every page. Her Babajoon takes her for a fun day shopping, and along the way she sees pieces of his past in Iran that he carries for sentimental value. However, being young, she sees the foreign money, language, and food as a clear indication he is a secret pirate and her imagination takes flight. The illustrations are vibrant and fans of the show Shimmer and Shine will see that style influence the full-bodied imaginings of the girl. I love the awe and love the illustrations convey to support the story of the love and fun the girl has with her grandfather.
