BAD KITTY GETS A JOB is a humorous graphic novel. Bad Kitty loves to play the latest video game, but to get the in-game item Bad Kitty wants, they will need to earn some money by getting a job. They try a few jobs, like babysitting and lawn mowing, but it all seems too challenging and full of mishaps. Eventually, Kitty gets the money for the power-up, but it still doesn't work out the way they wanted it to. Luckily, the baby helps to cheer Kitty up with a game of peekaboo.

What I loved: This is an overall entertaining read with plenty of mishaps and humor. Children will get a kick out of seeing Kitty try their hand at all sorts of jobs that seem to go awry. In the end, Kitty should feel proud, because they did so many things and worked hard for that in-game power up, even if it did not work out the way they wanted (the game is still challenging).

The artwork is full of bright colors with many colored panels that help young readers to find their way around the pages. The number of panels on each page are relatively low, which works well for young middle grade readers to easily follow the story and find their way around the story. All is well that ends well, with a happy Kitty (and baby) at the end of the story.

What left me wanting more: As a small thing, the book features a lot of text that can seem a bit dense in places. There is an adult narrator speaking to Kitty on most pages and telling them what to do and laying out the story. This helps for readers who need text to guide them around the images, but it also adds a heavy reading burden throughout. This format will work better for some readers than others.

Final verdict: BAD KITTY GETS A JOB is a humorous graphic novel that is sure to make young readers laugh while Kitty tries out babysitting, lawn mowing, dog walking, and more.
