This book continues the story right after the events of The Hunger Games, so I would definitely recommend reading the first book before this one or parts of the story might not make much sense. The book follows Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark as they try to adjust after surviving the Games. Instead of life getting easier, things become even more dangerous as the Capitol starts to see Katniss as a threat.

One thing I really liked about this book is how the tension keeps building. The story shows that winning the Games does not actually mean freedom, and Katniss is constantly being watched and controlled by the Capitol. As the rebellion slowly begins to grow in different districts, the stakes feel much bigger than they did in the first book. When the Quarter Quell is announced and past victors are forced back into the arena, it completely changes everything and raises the danger even more.

This being an illustrated edition makes the experience even better. The artwork helps bring some of the scenes and characters to life, especially moments in the arena and the darker parts of the story. Even though I had already seen the movies, the book still adds details and emotions that the films cannot fully show. Overall, this was a really well done continuation of the series.

- Strong character development for Katniss

- The Quarter Quell twist makes the story very exciting

- Illustrated edition adds visuals that make important moments stand out (so strongly recommend if you struggle with being able to visualize scenes.
