Most of us have heard the story of the tragic death of Cecil, a lion that was killed just last year. His death stirred up controversy because of how it was allowed to even occur, on top of how horrific it was. Many heard of his death, but few know of his life. Cecil's Pride gave an inside look at the great life he lived and the symbol of strength he was to those around him.
With the help of Cecil's "keeper", the authors were able to paint a vivid picture of a lion unlike most. The photographs on each page of Cecil, his cubs, and his home are absolutely breathtaking. It was told alongside the story of how he ruled a territory, lost it, and formed an unlikely partnership. It brought feelings of sadness because of his loss, but also hopefulness because of how his story has educated millions as well as the great legacy he leaves behind.
This story is haunting and yet, beautiful. Cecil and his story have greatly impacted out world, and with a book like this, will continue to do so. While I believe this book will be more suitable for older children, I think it will have a great impact on those who will fully be able to comprehend everything about Cecil and his legacy. I highly recommend, and will continue recommending this story to help educate others.
