Dating and Dragons is an utterly charming, clean YA romance. Her friend group has burned Quinn Norton, so she didn’t mind the family's move to be closer to her grandmother. Her grandmother is a feisty character, and her scenes are enjoyable throughout, especially when she tries to play matchmaker with Quinn and Logan. Logan and Quinn have instant attraction, but she has joined his livestream Dungeons and Dragons gaming group, and one of their main rules is no dating.
Quinn is a relatable character, and all the teens' portrayals feel well done and believable. Quinn’s family struggles to get her grandmother to accept downsizing and moving into a retirement community is a common challenge faced around this age, and I liked its inclusion in her backstory. Logan is green flag boyfriend material. Quinn and Logan’s doomed attempt to stay friends and adhere to the rules leads to great angst throughout.
I listened to this book as an audiobook. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing these characters together. I found myself making up tasks so that I had a reason to keep listening. This was a quick read with great characters and a charming premise that kept me hooked from start to finish. I am excited for the next book that is due to come out in 2026.
