Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch. Turns out she is a demon, one of only two in the world, the other being her father. After finding out she is a demon and finding out the boy she was crushing on was an agent for The Eye-a group trying to wipe out all Prodigum, she decides to have her powers removed, a very dangerous procedure that will leave her with marks all over her body. Her father picks her up at Hex Hall and takes her to London for the summer, hoping to persuade her from following through with the Removal. But when she gets to the London countryside she discovers two more demons! What does this mean? How were they made?
I just have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I did not want to put it down. I loved the first book, but I think I loved this one even more. How many sequels can you say that about? I truly felt for Sophie. Not only did the boy she like pull a knife on her, she finds out she is a demon, and now she has to leave her mom and Hex Hall for the summer to be with her father whom she doesn't even really know? Talk about an emotional roller coaster! At least she gets to bring her bestfriend, Jenna, with her. And even though Archer is missing, don't worry my friends, there is plenty of romance in this here book. You won't feel deprived.
I don't want to give away too much of the plot, so I won't go into anymore detail. I just wanted to say how much I love Rachel Hawkins writing style. I love Sophie's quick wit and sarcasam, but I also love how she can be serious when she needs to be. Sophie also is brave and stands up for her friends when they need her and is always willing to risk herself for those she loves. What an amazing quality in a character lead! The friendship between Jenna and Sophie reminds me of my friendships with my closets friends. Nothing can come between them.
This book left me wanting more. I cannot wait until the third book of this series comes out. I will finish with this. The ending will leave you all begging for more. I cannot believe where Rachel left it....happy reading!
