This is the coolest book ever. I mean it. If I could justify keeping this book for myself, I would, but instead I'm going to send it to a very special niece (but don't despair, I'll be giving away some copies in December '05, so stay tuned!). They label it the "definitive pop-up" but that doesn't nearly do it justice. It's just the coolest book. Ever.
Unlike a normal wimpy pop-up book that only features one cheesy pop-up per page, this one features multiple ones, often making the reader perform a little investigation before they find the right way to get to the good stuff. It's also very educational (I learned stuff about dinosaurs that I didn't know, like which dinos made the best mommies and which ones weigh as much as a car).
The pop-ups are also truly outstanding marvels of ingenuity. Given that the book is all about dinosaurs, the pop-ups feature everything from dinosaur skeletons to a very detailed Tyrannosaurus head coming right out at you. Everything is painstakingly accurate and fascinating.
I bow down before authors Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart. They've truly created a marvel of a book. Recommended for ages 5 and up, I'll include the caveat that you'll want to supervise little youngsters with this one (or buy a spare copy to keep pristine), as it is a pop-up book and could be damaged if used roughly. And trust me, you'll want to treasure this one.
