Cata Cordova and some other teens suffer from severe insomnia. When there is an opportunity to be part of a test study that could help with her insomnia, she signs up. Little does she know that insomnia was the least of her worries.
What worked: This is a creepy, on the edge of the seat novel that shows what might happen if you mess with dreams. In this case, nightmares take on a ghoulish horror.
There are seven teens that are involved with the dream study. Each one brings their own nightmare to the group. I really loved how Plum ups the tension with each different nightmare the teens stumble into. Each one is more grisly and deadly than the last. Think The Matrix meets Nightmare on Elm's Street. Only each teen brings their own boogeyman to the group.
The dialogue is catchy and there's twists and turns throughout the story. There's also some surprises-I totally didn't see one twist coming! And there are hints of a more sinister presence controlling the nightmares.
The only thing that did take me out at the beginning had to be keeping all the different teens apart. But once I started to get into the nightmares, I was hooked.
Fast-paced, tension-filled novel, sure to appeal to fans of horror without over the top gore.
