Review Detail
3.5 8Julie usually thinks of her friend Ashleigh as an Enthusiast. At fifteen, Ashleigh seems much younger than her years, not because of any mental disability but because the wide eyed innocence with which she looks at the world, an innocence Julia lost long ago- the only things she still loves with a passion are the novels of Jane Austen. However, those very novels are Ashleigh's latest obsession.
The advertisements for this book (which, unless I am much mistaken, even appeared briefly on this site) prominently featured a Stephenie Meyer quote, which set me off this book like you wouldn't believe, though I did think the plot sounded interesting. It was a nice looking book, as well, so I eventually broke down and read it. I loved, it, as you could probably tell from the rating- great characters, great story, everything required to make a good book- but what I thought was really interesting was the way I could never figure out exactly what the author was getting at.
A final word on Enthusiasm: it's chick lit- chick lit with an emphasis on lit, yes, but I still think that guys who would read and enjoy it are few and far between.
