Luce continues to delve into the tangled world of angels and demons in the second book of the Fallen series. After finally securing a fragile eternity with the single true love of her past lives, she is forced to flee once again as darkness descends onto Sword & Cross and obliterates a close friend. Settling down at a new school, Luce meets new people and starts the journey down the path that will ultimately lead her to the truth of her unlikely existence.

Although this book started out slow, with a few chapter I had to almost force myself to get through, it ended with a bang. I guess it was the author's intention to create a meticulously described setting and set of new characters before getting to the action. Once the Outcasts appeared and the Announcers began preying on Luce's fleeting newfound peace: wow. The inevitable final battle of the book does seem a bit rushed, but this was a satisfying read nonetheless.

Now impatiently waiting for the third book.
