FENWAY AND THE FRISBEE TRICK by Victoria J. Coe is the second book in a delightfully clever series about Fenway and his humans. In this installment, while at the big park with Fetch Man and Hattie, Fenway meets Carmen, a Rottweiler who is catching a frisbee midair. Impressed and a little jealous of the attention Carmen is getting, Fenway becomes determined to learn the same trick and get the same praise from his humans. All he needs is a frisbee.
What I Enjoyed:
This series so far has been a fun read. Fenway is a great narrator. I love seeing the world from a dog's perspective. It adds to the irony and humor of the story when Fenway is slightly confused over his humans' actions and as the reader we know what is going on. Young readers will love Fenway and his innocent, playfulness.
The writing is age-appropriate and will encourage younger readers to read independently or aloud to a parent/teacher. Well-defined chapters will also lend a sense of accomplishment to newly independent readers when they realize they can do it themselves. Fenway's plight in this book will also resonate with readers who struggle with new concepts. As Fenway struggles and adapts to catching a Frisbee, his perseverance shows that hard work and dedication will help you succeed.
Final Thought: Delightfully clever and insightful, FENWAY AND THE FRISBEE TRICK gives young readers a glimpse at the world from a playful puppy's perspective.
