Review Detail

I'm in book withdrawal after reading this. I was so inside the character's heads that the world around me faded away. It was like my trip to France last summer with my class. My teacher told me what it would be like, but until I was there, I didn't fully understand it. This story is like that, you're transplanted into Avristar and then a lot comes at you. I could barely understand Parisian french until I had been there for a few days but by the time I left, I felt like a pro. With Flame of Surrender, I read it fast, in two days and I'm actually reading it again. It's one of those books where you read it and you never want to leave. I wish all books could be like this. I had to go back to the beginning and experience the story again, with a new appreciation for all of the intricate details because I knew where the characters would end up. There are a lot of subtleties in this book that are genius when you really think about it, but if you're only looking for pizazz, action and drama, then you're not going to get that in this book. What you are going to get is a genuine story that doesn't seem made up at all. The characters all felt like real people to me, and the plot didn't take the expected twists and turns. I found myself very emotionally involved, and of course I'm sad for them, but I know there's more to this series. I'm an aspiring writer too and I only hope I can do what Ms. Paille has done with her spectacular debut.
