What I Liked:
Books about famous rock bands or teen heartthrobs can often feel unrealistic and too over-the-top. FOR THE RECORD never feels like that. Because the reader sees the band's tour through the eyes of Chelsea, a girl who gets hired as a replacement lead signer in the band Melbourne, even the crazy parties and whirlwind performances have an air of authenticity to them. It never feels unreal.
I loved the characterizations in the novel. Each character is unique and plays a role in Chelsea's journey to becoming part of the band. There are a lot of potholes along the way, and Chelsea definitely makes mistakes. But ultimately you can't help but admire her for pursuing her dream even when things get rough and everything goes wrong.
The Final Verdict:
FOR THE RECORD is fun look inside the entertainment industry through the eyes of a talented and flawed teenage girl who rockets into stardom.
