In this rhyming board book, we meet a variety of animals who are grateful for everyday things in their homes and community. From Ant enjoying art to Zebra planning zillions of fun things, this alphabet book offers lots of things to appreciate. Bears bed and blankets certainly look cozy, and young readers will agree with Giraffe that gifts are great, but may have questions about the rain for rabbit's roses!
Good Points
The simple line illustrations are rendered in soft greens, blues, and shades of pink, and have lots of details. The backgrounds are simple, which makes it easier to pick out the smaller things in the picture, like hedgehog's vase of flowers and the cupcake sitting on her chair. The style reminds me a little of Felicia Bond's 1985 illustrations for If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Joffe Numeroff, which will have a certain nostalgic weight for today's parents.
It never hurts to try to share positive outlooks with even the youngest readers. Whipple and Wong's Enough Is... is a family favorite, and G is for Gratitude is a great addition to books for which we can be grateful, like White and Jarvis' Thank You, Pray's Finding Grateful, or Nellist and Garland's Little Mole Gives Thanks.
