Similar to Janet Yolen and Mark Teague’s original book in this series, HOW DO DINOSAURS GO TO SLEEP is awesome from the outset. The first page shows the image of a large pachyrhinosaurus trying to hide from bedtime by crawling under his bed while an angry mom looks on. As the story progresses, other dinosaurs find new ways to try to avoid going to sleep—and Mark Teague’s illustrations are pure fun. The second half of the book depicts dinosaurs modeling good bedtime behavior, and drawings like those showing a saurolophus scrubbing his rubber ducky at bath time and a majungasaurus preparing his preposterously small toothbrush are sure to bring a smile.
Putting little ones to bed can be a challenge, so books that are both brief AND entertaining for parents and children alike are a blessing. Yolen and Teague are tremendously talented, and this is a book that should be added to every toddler’s bookshelf and incorporated into bedtime routines.
