Having taught writing at the secondary and college level, the most frequently asked question is, “What do real authors do?” Just Write: Here’s How by Walter Dean Myers answers just this question.
Walter Dean Myers is straight to the point providing a relative quick read at 170 pages. He offers valuable advice on how to be a writer- based on his years of experience. He shares his own personal experiences, writing samples, and heart –felt advice on the art and craft of writing. The book is conversational in tone, so that it feels like the author is just talking about what he does and offers helpful tips. Never does he sound preachy or too much like a “teacher”. The book inspires and nurtures but does not preach. This is a must read for any inspiring writing teen or adult. Multiple copies will be on my classroom bookshelf.
