First Impressions: I’ve read other books written by Jennifer Echols before and I loved them! So, naturally I wanted to check out her latest contemporary young adult romance novel, Love Story. Oh, and the cover is really pretty, too.
First 50 Pages: I immediately knew that Love Story wasn’t going to be my favorite book by Jennifer Echols, mostly because unlike her other books, it took me longer to start liking this book. I didn’t immediately like some of the characters (in the end I did) but, not at first glance.
Style of Writing & Plot Points: I think that Love Story is a super sweet romance that makes the perfect summer read sitting by the pool and catching some sun. It is fast paced, easy to read with an interesting plot that will keep you hooked up to the end. The plot is simple and easy to understand, even for a younger reader. I love the college setting Jennifer Echols decided on, since not many young adult books take place during college years, so that was a fresh welcoming idea. The tension between Hunter and Eric was fabulous, and I love how they didn’t have an immediate connection with one another. My favorite parts of Love Story were the stories within the story, the ones Erin and Hunter were writing for their college class. That was a totally unique way of expressing their feelings for one another and it added so much value to the story. I don’t think I would have liked the book as much if their little creative stories were not included.
Characters: I said at the beginning of this review that I didn’t care for some of the characters at first. Erin and Hunter both bothered me a little bit in the beginning and a few times later on in the story. Erin had a habit of overreacting to different things which I thought was a bit obnoxious, but you see her progression and adaptation as the story unfolds. Hunter I didn’t care for much at all, even though I do believe he truly cared for Erin, despite her downfalls. I won’t say that wasn’t completely in love with their relationship though since I could NOT put this book down.
Final Thoughts: I can’t wait to read Jennifer Echol’s next book. She never disappoints me with her writing. Even though Love Story isn’t my favorite book by this writer, it is still a well-written interesting read. I was disappointed with the ending though. It felt rushed to me and a bit predictable. Other than that, I enjoyed Love Story very much, especially the stories within the story. If you enjoy contemporary romance you will love, Love Story!
