Lucas, written by Kevin Brooks is one of my favorite books of this year; it is a story about a girl named Cait who meets a mysterious boy, Lucas, in her little town in Ireland with the pale blue eyes and a sad smile. She sees him as she and her dad drive her older brother down the quite streets to their house while he is back from college, he walks alone, dressed in green with a knapsack slung over his shoulder, and from then on her thoughts are consumed by him and why he has come here.
The drama starts when people begin to question what he is up to in the small town, then one day she finds him while walking her dog down by the beach; she figures it must be fate as they stand in silence. He has been living on his own for a while in the murk of a dangerous swamp. But what about when the other people of the island begin to think that Lucas has murdered someone along with various other crimes and want to bring him to justice? This is a truly page-turning, heart-wrenching, and dramatic story I could simply not put down, I was in tears reading it. I would rate it a 9.7 out of 10.
