This is a really great book about a girl growing up in poor neighborhood. She starts babysitting for a teenage mom who has 2 young children, and she learns about true poverty, but also about the love between mother and child.
The book is really great because it is told by the narrator, a teenage girl trying to do well in school and eventually go to college. So the book manages to show how difficult the mother's life is, without having a totally depressing hopeless feeling.

The story is good from start to finish. Period. It is fresh, cool and insightful. The message is good and it never gets old. It can still be applied today. My dad is always saying to me the same message in the book. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. It's a great message and a good book. After you read this, go have a glass of lemonade. You'll feel great, and you'll be doing the book's title.

This book follows the life of a teenage babysitter for a young 17 year old mother, Jolly, of two kids: Jilly and Jeremy. Verna helps Jolly out, while at the same time deals with he rown life: of getting to college and not living a life as low as Jolly's. But throughout the story she grows fond of the children and becomes great friends with Jolly. They teach each other things and Jolly starts to go back to school. This book is very interesting and is very realistic. it's funny as well and also sad, for Jolly's situation is very sad. You'll enjoy it, I promise.
