My Baby Sister Is a Diplodocus is a relatable book about an older child trying to understand his newborn sibling who isn’t able to play with him. The child tries to include the baby but is always being told firmly No! when trying to feed or play with her the way he would like. This leads to a dinosaur-sized tantrum as he puts on his fierce dinosaur costume and wrecks his room. I like that the parent realizes he is acting from a place of pain and frustration and helps soothe him and his relationship with his baby sister first. The illustration style is blocky and reminds me of a retro style from my childhood. The use of neon pink for the cover and text is an interesting color contrast setting it apart from other books. Overall, I would recommend this book for families that are experiencing sibling conflict in the transition of a new child into the family. I would be hesitant to read it with a young reader who is doing well with a new sibling in case it puts negative ideas that aren’t already present.
