When you step into this book you know the world you are entering and have prepared yourself. CJ has survived a grim childhood of abuse. As you move back and forth between present and past the secrets that CJ holds so desperately close reveal themselves even as he slowly unravels. What you may not be prepared for is not wanting to step away from story for too long because you want CJ to reveal what happened to to him so he can begin to truly heal. And you will also not be prepared for all the secrets he’s been keeping and just how deep his self loathing, guilt and confusion truly go. This is a character who is going to stay with me because I felt his pain as I read and I needed to know whether or not he would be okay and if that is even possible after what he’d been through.
