I
have never really been the type of reader interested in those girly,
cliche series like Gossip Girl, Private, The Clique series, etc. So
when my two friends were urging me over and over to pick up a copy of
Pretty Little Liars,
the first in the series, I have to admit that I wasn't convinced at
first. However, once I went to Borders to get some new books, I saw it
staring at me from the bookshelf...and what do you think I did next?
Yep, I bought it. (:

After
just reading the first chapter, I was HOOKED. Sure, even though it
seems like another typical girl series with the "rich/snobby/stuck-up"
characters, I really enjoyed this book. The author covered just about
every single problem/scenerio a lot of teenagers face in their lives:
body image and eating disorders, trying to figure out if you're
straight or lesbian, parent and family issues, finding love in all the
wrong places, cutting to deal with emotional pain, oh and your everyday
disapperance of your best friend.

.......

Yes
you read that right. After just the first chapter, Alison, the leader
of the seventh grade 5-girl-clique has gone missing. The girl who knew
everyone's secrets, and swore to take them to the grave. Meet Spencer,
Aria, Emily, and Hanna; four girls who were inseperable in middle
school but have long since moved on since their best friend Alison's
disapearance. But, life changes suddenly for all four of the girls once
they start getting strange emails and texts from someone anonymous, who
calls themself "A". With each chapter, readers will discover the truths
under each lie the girls have told inthe past, until all of them
somehow connect. Each girl has her own story and her own secrets, that
will leave you wishing for more. As soon as I finished the last page of
the book - which I loved the cliffhanger ending, by the way - I was
desperate to read the next book in the series. I like the variety of
plots going on; the storyline never bored me or dragged along. This is
definitely a girls' book though, I don't think guys would enjoy it too
much. The author doesn't hold back when describing make-out sessions,
and she introduces each chapter with the exact detail of what the
characters are wearing. There were some very awkward moments in the
book though while I was reading it in public - like at school - where I
was practically covering up the whole page with my hand so people
looking over my shoulder wouldn't be able to read it and ask what the
heck I was reading! (Yes, I get embarassed easily.) I think this is one
of those books that you either love or hate; and I fell into the "love"
category. My two friends who had orginally told me about this series,
were ecstatic to hear that I really liked it. This is just the
beginning of a great new series! :)

Pretty Little Liars is a girly book with suspenseful twists. It's about four teenage girl, Hanna, Spencer, Emily, and Aria who's deepest, darkest secrets gets exposed by a mysterious person by the name of "A". In the past, these girls were best of friends with the most popular girl in school named Alison. One night though, she disappears. Now, the four girls are getting notes about their past that only Alison knew. With these notes, they are brought back together and forced to find out the truth about Alison and "A".
This book by Sara Shepard is amazing. It is a suspenceful book that have many dark-pathed twists and turns. I have always liked girly books, but nothing like this before. It held my attention until the very end.
I have read all the books in the series that is out now, and I cannot wait for the next book to come out. I LOVE the book and all the secrets in it! I love it and everything about it!

Another great book series! This is definitely a book I will read again. Some of the book is a little predictable but mostly it was an exciting mystery! This story is told by the mysterious A. I thought that it was cool that it wasn't told by one of the girls or by an observer but by a character we barely know anything about. A knows everything about Spencer, Hanna, Aria, and Emily. All four girls have secrets, doesnt everyone? But these secrets arent something to be shared. Lets start with the characters. First I love their names. I dont know why but I always like a book better if the names are really cool, like Aria. I really liked the character Hanna she is the one thats using tricks to stay beautiful. She is still popular and if these secrets come out she has the most to lose. I love finding out what will happen to her life. Next the cover. I really love it! I like how the girl on the front is a doll. The font is cool and interesting too. The whole cover really brought me in. Looking for more Sara Shepard? First of there are more books out in this series, the next book after this is called Flawless. The girls think that most of their secrets are long hidden but A is her and shes telling.

Gossip thrives amid the Mercedes-Benzes, mega mansions, and perfectly manicured hedges in the exclusive town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania. Behind their big Gucci sunglasses, beneath their perfectly pressed Polos, everyone has something to hide, especially high school juniors Spencer, Aria, Emily, and Hanna. Spencer covets her sister's gorgeous new boyfriend. Aria is having an affair with her English teacher. Emily is infatuated with the new girl at school. And Hanna is using some ugly tricks to stay beautiful. Deeper and darker still is a horrible secret the girls have shared since sixth gradea secret they thought was safe forever.

Then the girls start receiving threatening messages signed by someone named "A." Could "A" be Alison, the ultra-popular girl who disappeared three years earlier? Alison was their best friend. She knew everything about them. But if Alison isn't "A," who is? And how could anyone else know so much about the bad girls they were and the bad girls they've become? Suddenly, their secretsthe big ones, the little ones, even the long-buried onesno longer seem so secret. Suddenly, nothing is safe in Rosewood.

I Loved this book. I loved the charaters and all their unique stories and things aboit Ali. The Plot was very good and interesting. Usually I don't like books where each chapter had a new teller I didn't mind it in this, it actually made it almost better. Their was a sligth air of mystery and gossip and telling others secrets which made this book good.

I would most definetly read this, and the whole rest of the series.

This book revolves around 4 girls, all former friends until Alison, the link for all of them, died.  The book starts when these 4 girls start doing some terrible things and get e-mails and text messages from a person 'A' threatening to tell.

Spencer can't keep her hands of anything that's her sister's.

Hanna will do ANYTHING to stay the queen bee of her school.

Aria is in love with her AP teacher she hooked up with in a bar a couple days ago.

Emily thinks she might be in love with the new girl next door.

I really liked the story.  It's full of suspense and drama and I don't have a clue who 'A' could be.

Definite recommend.

Pretty Little Liars was the best book I have read since the twilight saga. Filled with freindship, mystery, deciet, and forbiden romance. In the story 5 friends are torn apart following the disapearence of their fearless and sometimes mean leader, Ali. After 3 years all four remaining freinds hold a dirty little secret they have incommon and a few others of their own that only Ali knew about. When their old secrets seem to apply in their new lives too mysterious messages are sent to each of the girls signed A. Who is it? How do they know their secrets?? You'll find out in this realistic fiction reader for all TEEN(theese books are a little...descriptive) girls alike. This book is like the clique with an edgy twist.

Who would want to read a book with a doll on the cover? I mean, isnt that for like middle graders? WRONG. Pretty Little Liars might start off with the characters in their middle grade years, but before long, theyve already bloomed into full fledged high school students with personalities of their own.

Hanna, Spencer, Aria and Emily were all nobodys, till Allison found them. Together, they built a friendship, but it was all based on secrets. The only secret the girls didnt realize was, Allison was the only reason they had become friends in the first place. She was their glue, the only thing holding the girls together. Without her, those girls had nothing in common, well maybe just one thing. So what happens without Ali in their lives? Exactly, they all go their separate routes.

Hanna is the schools tease. After losing all that weight, she and Mona have become the best of friends. Emily paid more attention to swimming. She now hangs out with the swim team, and her boyfriend, who just so happens to also be on the swim team. Spencer is still the best at everything and her sisters boyfriends continue to flirt with her. Aria, the unique one of the group, has just returned and is even more unique. Her and her family had moved out of the country for two years. Each girl was finally able to find a place in the world, no longer in Alis shadow, so what more do they have in common? Could it be those random texts theyve been getting from A? But who is A, no one knows. We only know who we think it might be? It couldnt be Alison though could it? I mean shes gone, right? Whoever A is, shes definitely someone who clearly knows all the girls secrets.

The plot is very intriguing and it just keeps the reader wanting more. After reading this book, you are left with an abundance of questions that you cant wait till you get your hands on its sequel [FLAWLESS]. What really happened with Jenna? Is A really Allisons ghost? Will the friends reunite or go back their separate ways? Pretty Little Liars is a perfect example of a cliffhanger ending, and I loved every minute of it. I would recommend it to fans/readers or Gossip Girls, the A List, and just any YA reader in general. Its a book to die for. I just love how it ended.
