Rebel Heiress is the third and final book in THE DIAMONDS series. After three seasons out in the ton, Lady Rosalin Chen is told she must marry. However, when her cousin, Lord Ansel Chen, decides to go on a secret grand tour of the world, Rosalin can’t help disguising herself as him and attend his college classes instead. Her tutor is the mathematical genius, Tarik St. Clair, and it is love at first sight for her. The only problem is he thinks she is a boy, and he’s not rich.
I have never imagined science and math to be swoon-worthy subjects, but Amalie Howard does a fantastic job making them a love language for Tarik and Rosalin. Drawing from other historical figures who were women in education or women in secret, the author does a nice job grounding this book in the plausible yet fun premise.
The epilogue at the end does a nice job giving everyone featured throughout this series closure.
The audiobook narrator does a nice job overall, bringing this love match to life. My only critique is the deepening of her voice for the male parts, and Rosalin’s alter ego didn’t help make it feel believable that the character could have fooled everyone pretending to be a man.
Overall, this is a nice conclusion to the series and a nice romp into an idealized past. The search for love and for female agency is nicely balanced in these historical romances.
