Sixteen-year-old Laureth's father, Jack Peak, is supposedly in Switzerland (or Austria), working on the book he has been obsessed with writing for years. So, when his journal is found in New York, and Laureth can't contact him, she's worried. Unfortunately, her mother is not. So, Laureth decides to run away from London to New York to find her father. However, Laureth is blind and knows she can't navigate her way around New York on her own, so she abducts her seven-year-old brother, Benjamin, and tells him they are going to meet their father, saying nothing about his disappearance. What follows is a series of perceived clues, strange meetings and coincidences (which is what Jack's obsession is about) that eventually lead them to the truth. Laureth and Benjamin are great characters, the clues and plot are complex and entertaining, and the action is fast-paced, but some parts, especially reading Jack's journal, slow the story way down and get lengthy.
