The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley is the story of a girl named Harry. Harry is shipped off to the country Damar after her father dies. There she falls in love with the stark desert that so many hate. She is then kidnapped by the king of the Hill folk, the natives. Once she goes into the hills, she finds that she has a special gift that could help save Damar.

I read this book for the first time in middle school. When I started it I knew that I had fallen in love with the book. Harry was so much like me; she wasn't pretty or graceful, but she loved to read. I have re-read this book more times than I will admit, but it never loses its power. It's one of my favorite books and is a worthwhile read for anyone.
