There are a lot of people who love to play chess; there are others who live to play the game. Grubb Gradys family lived to play chess, they played everyday. It was sort of a family obsession, or so Grubbs thought, until one horrible night when his worst nightmare came true. His parents and his sister had left him at a relatives house while they went to go see a ballet, figuring his parents had lied, he snuck out of the relatives house and started heading towards his own. Sure enough when he got home the car was in the driveway and the goriest sight imaginable awaited him inside.
He spent many months in a mental institute after that night. After a while his uncle came to take him to a new home. Grubbs made friends with a boy named Billy almost immediately. Life grew easier for Grubbs, calmer. One day, Grubbs and Billy were rifling through Grubbs uncles desk when they found a book, full of picture of family members who died young. Along with that book was another, which spoke of Werewolves and the transformation of people to them.
After a while Billy and Grubbs started following the uncle on his morning jogs, watching as he would pick up animal carcasses along the way. By then Billy was convinced that the uncle was a werewolf, although Grubbs was not as sure. Could the uncle really be a werewolf?
Lord Loss was an interesting book, very gory but otherwise very good. This book was written by Darren Shan, who is my personal favorite. I would not recommend this book to kids under the age of 12& only because the gory is very bad. I am sure that if you like this book you will love Demon Thief.
